now, it may shock some of you to know, that despite me being a total technophile, tv, and more directly, the concepts of tivo, are completely foreign to me. however, unlike my father, who must be told over and over which remote lowers the god damn volume, i can usually pick up basic concepts pretty quickly. hence, when my buddy logan informed me that the fancy directv box that we have at the ranch (transfered from dad’s old house) is like a tivo, and showed me how it works, i went ahead and set it up to record a couple of shows for me. now being bored as hell tonight, and all caught up on lost and heroes, i decided to kick on the ol’ boob-tube and watch a few episodes of my good pal norm, over at the new yankee workshop. so i turn on the tv, bring up the guide and immediately see this:
holy. shit. seriously. is this the kind of crap you people watch? are there just so many channels now that they just started making shows about anything to fill airtime? does there REALLY need to be a hour and a half special on this particular topic? now, admittedly, i have a few shows i like to watch. the discovery channel, the history channel and hgtv often have programs worth watching. but to just turn the damn thing on and stare it for hours, watching whatever is on… its time we started doing things differently folks. i’m not saying kill your television. i’m not even being so bold as to suggest canceling your cable. just… maybe pick up a book instead every once in a while? go for a walk outside, ride a bike, climb a tree. get off the couch and go live your life instead of watching dumbfuck celebrities mess up theirs. just sayin…. and speaking of books, thanks to joe for lending me the man in the high castle by philip k. dick, a pretty interesting study of what would have happened if the axis powers had won world war II. check it out sometime…
